9-foot section of road ΓÇó Here, in-between Miami and Afton are two 9-ft. sections of roadway. Constructed in 1922 by the Oklahoma Department of Highways, these sections of road were part of Route 66. Stories suggest that the funding provided for the project allowed for the completion of a standard 18-ft. roadway, but for only half the distance needed. So state highway officials elected instead to build the entire length of the road, but to make it only half the width.
